Task 3 - Video Game Documentary

Introduction script
Hello my name is Ramil Garceniego  and today I’m going to be showcasing the results of the  4 major research types that I conducted to use for my documentary about the Tekken franchise. Those 4 major research types are Primary, Secondary, Qualitative and Quantitative. In my documentary you will see images of the questionnaire that I made using survey monkey and also print screens of the results that I acquired in the form of bar charts and pie charts, this is one of the primary research techniques that I used to find out about peoples point of view on tekken even though they have never played it before, the second primary research technique that I used was to do an interview with one of my friends which you will be seeing in my documentary later, in the interview I ask her about what she thought of the game like the graphics and how it has changed over the past decade. The whole of the research would probably count as secondary research.

Documentary
So start off my documentary I will be showing you clips of tekken starting with the oldest to the latest, as the video proceeds you’d probably notice how im only showing nina for each of the clips this is because I wanted to show you how the graphics have dramatically improved over the years and how they have added new systems and modes so that the game won’t get too boring with just the usual traditional fighting modes like ghost battle and arcade.
Throughout tekken 1.
The first clip will obviously be tekken 1 which was released at arcades on December 9 and 11 on 1994 and was released a year later from March 31 to November 7 and 8 on PlayStation which by then the second tekken came out.
In this clip you will see nina versus yoshimitsu. As you can see there are only eight characters you can choose from and you can also see that they all look a little bit retarded especially nina because she looks quite grumpy, probably because she has a banana hanging from her head, but don’t worry they will gradually get a lot better through out the series of clips I will be showing.
Here you can see nina fighting yoshimitsu with her unusually disproportionate limbs but this will also change within the next 6 clips I will be showing you.
So next is tekken 2
Throughout tekken 2.
It’s not hard to notice but you can see they have slightly changed the layout of the character select and the background music, they’ve also added effects on the character portrait.
you can see the change in the character design and the graphics of the gameplay
And here you can also see that slightly changed her winning pose.
Throughout tekken 3.
Here they’ve changed the player select screen a little bit and they’ve also added 9 new characters but removed Michelle and replaced her image with her daughters so they’ve completely changed the character but the moves are still the same just with a different character doing them.
Before showing clips of tekken 6.
Before I show you the clip of tekken 6 let me tell you about the new systems they have added into the game and new customization’s,
As for the new mode it is a beat’em up type of mode called scenario campaign mode which is very similar to tekken force and devil within that were also featured modes from previous instalments, this mode allows the player to move freely in an invironment which is similar to that of a thirperson roleplaying game. Cool part is that while playing the plaer can also pick up weapons like poles and gatling guns they can also pick up other things like gold and and clothes you can use to customize your characters, you can get these by breaking crates that are basically all over the place, not that the clothes that you find in the mode can boost your strength within that mode, also from the start you will be given a companion that will fight with you who is a playable character in the game.
Next is the customization, im only going to talk about a couple of stuff here so first are the interactive items, these interactive items can be used to damage your opponent of just make your character do some stupid stuff like a disco ball will illogically appear out of nowhere and your character will start dancing which is pretty stupid considering that your fighting though some of them will make your character kick a football at your opponent, note that when you activate this it will leave your character open for attacks, each character has their own individual interactive item where only that certain character can use it, another thing is that you have to wear certain types of clothes or items to make it work and you will also have to use a button combo like everything else. Last thing is the aura or ki and rage system colour which I talked about earlier, these effect are quite expensive auras and ki’s being 500,000 gold. And I think the rage colours are around a million.
Another new thing is that they have now made interactive environments where you can fall through if your character or the opponent is smashed on that particular area, though there is only 4 of these 1 being a wall you can smash your opponents through.
Before showing the interview video and print screens of questionnaire.
Before i get to talking about the other game instalments and how they have adapted the games into movies and anime I will be showing you print screens of the questions from the questionnaire I made using survey monkey along with the results that I acquired from it.
the next thing I will showing you is a video of me interviewing one of my friends asking them about tekken like which graphics they preferred between the two different tekken instalments specifically between 1 and 6. Ok so her it is.
Before showing tag tournament series
Ok so now that that’s over I will be showing you the tekken tag tournament series and how it has improved. Ok so the first tekken tag tournament came out on july 1997, it has the same fighting mechanics as tekken 3  but you can battle in teams of two characters so when your playing in any point of the match you can hit a tag button which will swap your character with your other character and this allows the resting fighter to recover some health. You can use the tag in many ways like between doing a combo or while utilising special throws. Unlike other tag games like Capcom’s Vs. series the player will lose even if only one of the characters lose their all their health.
Now for tekken tag 2 released at arcades on September 14, 2011 just like the first one, the player is required to choose to different characters to fight with. not too much has changed with the mechanics except now you can a combined throw which if time properly can be escaped from. the only that has dramatically changed is the graphics and you can see how much different it is from the old one.
While showing a side by side video of tekken tag 1 and 2.
Here is a side by side comparison on the graphics of the two instalments.
Now for tekken revolution, im going to go through this quickly just because I still have other things to talk about the adaptations.
Ok so tekken revolution is the in the tekken franchise to made free to play in this manner. It was released exclusively playstation 3 in the playstation store on june 11 2013.
Tekken revolution
In tekken revolution they have introduced a new system that you use to basically upgrade an individual character, so the first one is POWER, if you level up this stat it will increase your characters strength, so they do more damage per hit, the next thing is VIGOR, when you level up this stat it will increase you chance of hitting a critical hit which deals more damage than a normal hit, the next stat is Endurance now this stat when upgraded will increase your characters health and will show up on the life bar as grey health.
Tekken 7
Now onto tekken 7, tekken 7  had limited arcade release in japan on February 18 2015 and was followed by another unfinished release on march 18 2015, an update on the arcade title tekken 7 fated retribution was announced on December  12 2015, it will be featuring an expanded content including new stages, costumes, characters and items, do note that the game is still on beta stage.
now in tekken 7 they have added two new mechanisms known as rage arts, unlockable moves that deal 30% damage, the second one is power crush, this allows the player to continue an attack even while being hit, do note that even though you can’t be interrupted, your opponents moves will still deal damage to you, it also only works  for high and mid attacks.
Another one is the screw attack, the screw attack is basically like the bound system that was in tekken 6, this move will make your opponent spin sideways when hit while airborne which will allow you to do more moves but unlike the bound system you won’t be able to extend your combos.
You will see what I mean with the clips I will showing you.

Before talking about other adaptations.
Now that I have covered most of the game instalments I will be showing you clips of the movies and anime adaptations they have made.
First adaptation.
Starting off with the anime adaptation. The anime adaptation was called tekken: the motion picture, it was initially released on DVD on January 26, 1999, the story is basically showing how Kazuya, one of the main characters in the game gathered so much hatred for his father Heihachi mishima, I mean c’mon who wouldn’t so angry with their dad if he throws you down a cliff to see if your strong enough to survive, well anyway here are some clips from the movie,
Ok so next is a live action film adaptation of the game and it’s called Tekken, Just tekken.  It was released on march 20 2010 in japan having the budget of 30 million dollars which I really don’t get why they need so much money just filming hitting each other and flipping around doing stunts, anyway the story is about a teen ager named jin also a main character in the game, kazuya’s son to jun who was a character in tekken 2 and tekken tag 2 as a boss when she transforms into a monster called unknown, ok carrying on from jin, jin was taught martial arts by his mother and he usually co-operates with resistance groups to earn money to buy food as some food like chocolate have become expensive and rare commodities in the year they lived in, (I’d hate to live a world with no chocolate) but one night jin was targeted by the jackhammers, an elite specs group that patrols the place he lives in to ensure the safety of tekken city, he was targeted because he was co-operating with the resitance but when he we went home he finds his mother dead, thinking that the heihachi was the one responsible for her death jin swears to revenge the heihachi by entering the iron fist tournament.
Here are clips from the movie.
Next adaptation.
The Next movie adaptation is called tekken: blood vengeance, The movie was produced by Digital Frontier and distributed by Asmik Ace Entertainment in association with Bandai Entertainment.
The film premiered in North America by Bandai entertainment on july 26 2011, the film was released on blue ray disc on November 22 2011 for usa and December 1 for japan.
Next adaptation
I don’t want to go into too much detail because this documentary is probably dragging but the plot takes place in an alternate story line between tekken 5 and 6 so the movie includes some characters from the two games, main characters like jin kazama and kazuya mishima will obviously be there but it also includes one of the new characters from tekken 6 named alisa bosconovitch who is a humanoid and is being used by jin kazama to search for their target who is a boy named shin kamiya, anyway the movie is action packed with quite a lot of fighting scenes in so yeah, here are some clips from the movie
Last adaptation.
The latest movie in the series is called tekken: kazuyas revenge and it’s a prequel of the other live action film, the film is a live action version of the anime adaptation.
Note that I’ve only watched tekken: blood vengeance so I don’t really know what im talking about with the other ones but they’re all based on research.

Notes:
Say how you will start off with showing clips of the games starting with oldest, obviously.
Talk about when they were released
Having Nina as an example for the changes in the graphics.
Talk about the bound system, the rage system and how you can customize aura onto your character. Scenario mode in tekken 6 similar to tekken force which was playable in tekken 4.
Show images of the questionnaire you made and the interview.
Talk about how the franchise evolved and were adapted as movies and anime.
Talk about tekken revolution and tekken 7.
Two new mechanisms, Rage arts, unblockable moves that deal about 30% damage. Second, power crush lets the player continue attacks even while being hit, they would receive damage but the moves won’t be interrupted, it also works only for absorbing high or mid attacks.
The bound system that was in tekken 6 is replaced by screw attack which instead makes the enemy spin sideways when they are hit while airborne, this allows the player to inflict additional hits before they hit the ground. While the bound system allows you to do call combos screw attack doesn’t.
Characters movements are now much more fluid and also the character art are much smoother and detailed so it looks more realistic.
